It is important to treat all Fine Art Reproductions (Giclee) just like you would an original piece of art. Remember that like any original the way you frame it and care for it will affect the life of the image.
How you handle your prints will affect how long they last.
Fine Art Cotton Rag or Photo Paper Inkjet Prints.
- Handle loose paper prints or fine art reproductions with extreme care to avoid kinks.
- Ideally, wear gloves to keep skin oil and dirt off the print.
- The media used for printing are coated with a special emulsion to encapsulate the inks. This emulsion will scratch if handled roughly.
- Always handle by the border, rather than touching the printed surface. We do not recommend prints without borders unless they are being framed immediately.
- Paper prints should always be framed behind glass or acrylic or placed in mattes in a protective archival box or album. When framing a quality paper print, be sure to use a reputable framer who uses archival products that will assist in keeping your print looking good for generations to come.
- Museum glass costs more but will increase the longevity of your print due to it’s ability to block UV light.
- Use good quality conservation or Museum mattes when framing.
- Hang your artwork away from direct sunlight or lights that emit a lot of UV.
- All a framed print should ever need is dusting for the frame and cleaning the glass – your framer will advise you how to clean museum glass. Regular glass can be cleaned with any normal glass cleaner.
Canvas Prints and Fine Art Reproductions.
- All our Fine art canvas prints/reproductions have a spray coating of UV inhibiting, anti-fungal laminate, designed to enhance the colour and add an extra level of protection to the ink on the canvas. This coating also increases the longevity of the colours in your image.
- Always handle your canvas with care as it can be scratched if mistreated or the ink can be removed if the frame is dragged along another surface. Treat it like a valuable original artwork – always handle carefully.
- Canvases that are supplied by us, stretched onto our stretcher frames are covered by our replacement warranty. Should anything happen to damage your canvas, or if the colours fade, return it to us and if the file is still available, we will replace it at 50% of it’s current cost.
- Atmospheric conditions will cause the canvas to expand and contract. For this reason we do not overstretch a canvas – we always allow a little give, this is normal for inkjet canvases. Once your canvas is stretched properly and hung, you are unlikely to see any changes, but the canvas will tighten and relax with changes in humidity.
- The very nature of a natural product such as cotton canvas means that there will be imperfections (lumps and bumps) in the surface of the canvas caused by the variations in the cotton threads that make up the canvas. This is normal and a feature of cotton canvas. It also means that printing to exact sizes is a challenge. All stretched canvases will be within a few millimetres of the ordered size.
- Do not display your canvas prints in areas of high concentrations of UV light or heat. Use correct coloured art lighting for best results. Canvas prints should be hung in a clean environment and cleaned with a light feather duster. Solvents etc should not be used. If anything marks your canvas or stains it, then please bring it in to us to see if it can be easily fixed or replaced under warranty.
Metal Mount Prints.
- Our Metal Mount Prints are made by mounting a laminated print to a dibond aluminium backing, ready to hang.
- The print itself is protected by the laminate of your choice – Sand Textured or Matte.
- Care must be taken when handling your Metal Mount to protect both the laminate and the mount itself.
- The laminate can be scratched or marked if not handled with respect. White Cotton Gloves should be worn to avoid fingerprints or smudges. If the laminate is scratched, it cannot be repaired.
- Clean only with a soft cotton cloth and a small amount of Metholated Spirits if the surface of the laminate get’s smudged or has anything sticking on it. Wipe VERY gently, without too much pressure to avoid scratching the laminate.
- If this does not remove the problem, please return it to us for inspection.
- The corners of the aluminium mount itself must be protected from damage. Do not drop the mount or bump it against any hard surface as this can dent the face, edges or corners of the mounts.
- Please use the hanging kit provided to best support your artwork on the wall.
Gallery Floating Acrylics
- The face of a Gallery Floating Acrylic is a sheet of clear acrylic, which can be ordered in different thicknesses.
- Care must be taken when handling your Acrylic Mount to protect both the acrylic and the mount itself. The print is protected and permanently sandwiched between the two.
- The acrylic can be scratched or marked if not handled with respect. White Cotton Gloves should be worn to avoid fingerprints or smudges.
- If the acrylic is scratched, it may be fixed by using an acrylic polish and a soft cotton cloth.
- Clean only with a soft cotton cloth and a small amount of Metholated Spirits if the suface of the acrylic get’s smudged or has anything sticking on it.
- If this does not remove the problem, please return it to us for inspection.
- The corners of the mount itself must be protected from damage. Do not drop the mount or bump it against any hard surface as this can scratch the face, or chip/dent the edges or corners of the acrylic.
- Please use the hanging kit provided to best support your artwork on the wall.
Crystal Blocks and Panels.
- Crystal Blocks and Panels should be handled with care at all times.
- The acrylic can be scratched or marked if not handled with respect. White Cotton Gloves should be worn to avoid fingerprints or smudges.
- The corners of the Block or panel itself must be protected from damage. Do not drop the mount or bump it against any hard surface as this can scratch the face or chip the edges or corners of the acrylic.
- Clean only with a soft cotton cloth and a small amount of Metholated Spirits if the suface of the acrylic get’s smudged or has anything sticking on it.
- DO NOT apply any cleaning fluids to the back of the block or panel where the print is exposed.
- Ensure your block or panel is displayed on a sturdy table or sideboard where it cannot be knocked over.
