Preparing Images

We will prepare your images for printing if you can’t, however, if you’d like to prepare them yourself, here are the ideal requirements.

Preferred File Requirements

  • For ideal results you need to be working on a correctly calibrated monitor.
  • Set your software (Photoshop, Lightroom etc) for the AdobeRGB 1998 colourspace
  • All files must be supplied at 300ppi – incorrect PPI will result in incorrect print size.
  • TIFF, PSD or JPEG files preferred.
  • NOTE: AS A SECURITY MEASURE, WE NO LONGER ACCEPT ZIPPED FILES.
  • 16bit files will be accepted but all printing is done in 8bit.
  • IMPORTANT POINT – do not use symbols such as ‘ ” # etc in file names. Macs can see these symbols, PC’s cannot and your files may not be readable.

Paper Print Preparation

  • Art and Photo Papers are subject to damage if handled incorrectly so we always recommend a minimum 1cm border. When prepping your file, adding a 1cm border means adding 2cm to your “canvas size”.
  • The ordering process requires you select the “IMAGE SIZE plus a border” or “PRINT AS SUPPLIED” (which should include a border and be the final paper size). If you require a final print with odd sized borders, then prepare your image as such and order “Print As Supplied” entering the overall canvas size. For all other images choose whichever option suits your file.
  • Ideally the file name should include the options required such as….

Canvas Print Preparation

  • THere are many ways to create the wrap for a canvas, that’s the borders around the sides on the stretcher frame. We have actions available that make canvas wrap preparation simple – just uspply your image and let us know what wrap you’d like.
  • Ideally the file name should include the options required such as….

  • Images to be supplied sized at the final print size – no bleed!
  • Ideally the file name should include the options required such as….

Metal Mount Preparation

  • Metal mount images require a 5mm bleed on all sides. This requires that you create the image larger than the finished required size.
  • A 5mm bleed means the image should be 1cm larger than the finished size, for example you should supply a file measuring 51 x 76cm for a finished mount of 50 x 75cm. Do not simply add black or white to the image as a bleed unless the edges of the image are solid black or white.
  • Ideally the file name should include the options required such as….
